The entire central device is enclosed within a reeded (milled) inner circle, with the circular legend in Gothic uncial characters occupying the outer field between the reeded border and the coin's rim. Small six-petalled rosettes appear in the spandrels between the cross arms and the quadrilobe. The design faithfully reproduces the medieval Gothic aesthetic of the original 14th-century Milanese grosso issued under the joint lordship of Giovanni and Luchino Visconti. |
