| Reverse description | Venus, depicted semi-draped, seated left upon a throne or cista, her upper body bare and her lower body covered by flowing drapery with finely rendered parallel folds. She extends her right hand forward, possibly holding a small object, while her left hand rests on a long sceptre that leans diagonally across the field. The legend VENVS appears in the lower exergual area. The composition is rendered in the Hellenistic artistic tradition of the eastern mint at Ephesus, befitting the cistophoric series. |
