| Beschrijving keerzijde | Standing figure of Venus Augusta depicted in near-full face, nude to the waist, leaning gracefully against a tall cippus or column to her left. Her lower body is draped, and she extends her right arm forward, possibly holding an apple or small object, while her left hand rests on the column. A sceptre or spear leans diagonally behind her. The legend VENVS AVG is distributed in the field to either side of the figure, invoking Venus in her Augustan, imperial manifestation. The composition follows Hellenistic artistic conventions common to cistophoric issues struck at Ephesus under the Flavian dynasty. |
