Obverse description Cast round token with a central square hole, bearing four Chinese characters arranged in the traditional cross pattern around the hole. The four characters read clockwise from the top: 大 (dà), 通 (tōng), 寶 (bǎo), 觀 (guān), forming the reign era legend 大觀通寶 (Daguan Tongbao) associated with Emperor Huizong of the Northern Song Dynasty. Characters are rendered in raised relief within a plain rim.
