Reverse description A seated allegorical female figure representing Commerce, helmeted and draped, extends her right arm forward holding a laurel wreath toward a sailing ship at sea in the left background. She holds a caduceus in her left hand, and is surrounded by commercial and maritime attributes including an anchor, a ship's wheel, bales, barrels, and a sheaf of wheat. The legend arcs across the upper field, with the founding inscription in two lines in the lower exergue. The engraver's signature ANDRIEU appears at lower left.
