This motif, borrowed from earlier Greek coinage traditions, served as a dynastic or civic emblem on Artaxiad bronze issues. The design is set within a plain field on an irregular flan, with no surrounding legend. The workmanship is characteristic of early Armenian hammered bronze coinage.
