| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse features an amphora shown in full, a standard secondary type on Chian bronze coinage representing the island's renowned wine trade. Flanking the amphora, the Greek legend identifies the issuing magistrate, with the ethnic ΧΙΟΣ appearing alongside the magistrate's name ΣΤΡΑΤΟΝΙΚΟΣ. The lettering is arranged vertically to the right of the amphora, executed in the characteristic epigraphic style of late Hellenistic Chian civic issues. |

Chios maintained unusual autonomy within the Roman sphere during much of this period, having sided with Rome against Antiochus III at the Battle of Magnesia in 190 BC — the very year this issue's range opens. That alliance bought the island considerable commercial freedom, and its coinage reflects sustained civic confidence rather than the interruptions typical of subject mints. The series ends near the First Mithridatic War, when Mithridates VI brutally punished Chios for its pro-Roman loyalty in 86 BC, deporting much of the population to Pontus.
