| 背面描述 | A horse trotting vigorously to the left, depicted in animated profile with the near foreleg and far hind leg raised in mid-stride. The musculature of the animal is rendered with naturalistic Hellenistic artistry. The royal legend BAΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΣΕΛΕΥΚΟΥ appears in the field, identifying the issuing monarch as King Seleukos. Depending on the die variety, control marks or monograms may appear in the field below or alongside the horse. |

Seleukos II inherited a fractured empire. His reign opened with the Third Syrian War, during which Ptolemy III invaded deep into Seleucid territory, briefly occupying Antioch itself. Bronze coinage of this type continued circulating through that occupation and its aftermath — a period of considerable administrative disruption to the Antiochene mint. His later years were consumed by a prolonged civil war against his own brother Antiochos Hierax, effectively splitting the empire in two for nearly a decade.
