背面描述 Figure of Aithalos, the eponymous hero of the Ainianes, advancing right in a dynamic striding pose, depicted as a warrior or hunter wearing a petasos hat and chlamys cloak, with one arm raised. The ethnic inscription ΑΙΝΙΑ ΝΩΝ (of the Ainianes) appears divided in the left and right fields flanking the figure, identifying the issuing tribe. The design is rendered in the compact, vigorous style typical of Thessalian bronze coinage of the early Hellenistic period.

附加信息

The Ainianes were a small Thessalian tribal federation controlling the upper Spercheios valley, with Hypata as their principal urban center. Their bronze coinage was struck during a period when the region cycled through Macedonian dominance and the competing ambitions of the Aitolian League, which would eventually absorb the Ainianes entirely by the mid-3rd century. The Rogers variety designation here suggests a die linkage or ethnic spelling that deviates from the more commonly catalogued examples in the BCD sale — worth cross-referencing against the full BCD Thessaly I sequence.
