Hormizd I ruled for less than two years before dying — possibly in battle — leaving an unusually compressed window for coin production. The Indo-Sasanian issues attributed to his reign were struck in the eastern territories where Sasanian authority blended with surviving Kushano-Sasanian administrative structures, and the billon composition reflects the degraded silver supply common to frontier minting rather than any central policy shift. Mitchiner's cataloguing of this type remains one of the few systematic treatments of a series that numismatists long lumped indiscriminately under broader Kushano-Sasanian headings.
