| Obverse description | Laureate head of Apollo facing right, rendered in fine Classical Greek style with long wavy hair swept back and gathered at the nape. The portrait occupies the full field of the flan, with strong facial modelling characteristic of mid-4th century Ionian coinage. The laurel wreath is depicted with carefully incised leaves. No legend appears on the obverse. |

Kolophon's bronze coinage of this period reflects a city navigating the turbulent aftermath of Persian reassertion over the Ionian coast following the King's Peace of 387 BC. The magistrate name Hermothes appearing on this issue places it within a civic administrative structure that Kolophon maintained even under shifting overlordships — Persian, then briefly Macedonian as Alexander's campaign swept through Asia Minor after 334 BC.
Milne's classification of this type remains the standard reference, though Kinns refined the die sequence considerably.
