Antioch's autonomous bronze fractions of this period occupy an awkward administrative middle ground — struck under Roman imperial authority yet carrying the SC mark that nominally invoked senatorial sanction, a formula transplanted from Rome to the eastern mint largely as convention rather than constitutional reality. Butcher's work on Syrian coinage has shown that these smallest Antiochene bronzes circulated heavily at the local bazaar level, which is precisely why survivors in any discernible condition are harder to source than the larger denominations from the same reign.
