Priene's bronze coinage of this period reflects the city's peculiar political situation — rebuilt from scratch by Alexander the Great in the 330s BC on a new grid-plan site above the Maeander plain, the city spent the following century navigating between Seleucid and Attalid influence before Rome's reorganization of western Asia Minor following Apamea in 188 BC effectively ended its autonomy as a monetary authority.
