| Beschrijving keerzijde | Apollo, nude, seated left upon the omphalos, the sacred navel-stone of Delphi, rendered in the characteristic Seleucid iconographic tradition. The god extends his right hand forward to test or inspect an arrow, while his left hand rests upon a grounded bow at his side. The figure is executed in competent Hellenistic style with attention to musculature and posture. The royal legend is disposed in two lines flanking the figure, reading ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ to the right and ΑΝΤΙΟΧΟΥ to the left or around the type. The composition closely follows the well-established Apollo-on-omphalos reverse type standard throughout the coinage of Antiochos III. |
