| Beschrijving keerzijde | Athena Promachos striding vigorously to the right in full martial panoply, her right arm raised and brandishing a spear, her left arm extended and bearing a round shield. The goddess is depicted in a long, flowing garment with helmet, in the classical Promachos pose associated with Athenian iconography and widely adopted in Hellenistic royal coinage. The Greek legend ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΝΤΙΟΧΟΥ is distributed in the field to either side of the figure, identifying the issuing monarch as King Antiochos II Theos. On certain varieties (SC1 566.1), an anchor appears in the exergue as a dynastic Seleucid symbol. |
