Antiochos I inherited a fractured empire from his father Seleukos I and spent much of his reign fighting the "Elephant War" against rebellious Galatian tribes in Asia Minor — a conflict that earned him the epithet Soter ("Savior") from the grateful Greek cities of the region, Smyrna among them. That civic loyalty almost certainly underlies why Smyrna maintained active bronze production for the Seleucid administration during this period rather than striking civic issues independently.
SC1 #312 is among the scarcer Smyrnaean bronze attributions in the series, with die studies suggesting limited output relative to the Antiocheia and Sardeis mints.
