Proerna was a minor Perrhaebian settlement in Thessaly, politically insignificant enough that its independent coinage output was extremely limited — this chalkon represents one of very few bronze issues the city produced before absorption into the Macedonian administrative sphere made autonomous municipal coinage effectively redundant. The BCD Thessaly collection, arguably the most systematic assembly of Thessalian bronzes ever formed, recorded only a handful of specimens.
