背面描述 A figure, interpreted as the Thessalian hero or deity Achilles or alternatively a local Lamian eponymous figure, depicted in a dynamic seated or crouching pose within the field. The figure appears semi-draped with limbs in vigorous motion, rendered in low relief consistent with provincial Greek bronze engraving of the period. The ethnic inscription ΛΑΜΙ arcs around the upper portion of the reverse field, identifying the issuing city of Lamia in Thessaly. The composition fills the irregular flan, with the lettering distributed in the upper periphery.

附加信息

Lamia, the principal city of the Malians in southern Thessaly, issued bronze coinage relatively early compared to many neighboring communities — bronze adoption in the region was often tied to the practical demands of local markets rather than prestige. The Malians are best known historically for their territory's strategic position at Thermopylae, a fact that made Lamia a recurring military prize throughout the fourth century, eventually falling within the sphere of Macedonian influence under Philip II.

BCD Thessaly II #128.3 places this chalkon within a tightly catalogued sequence from the BCD collection, the most rigorously documented Thessalian bronze series in private hands.
