Iasos, a small Carian coastal city whose prosperity depended almost entirely on its fishing industry — particularly the salted fish trade — minted bronze fractions like this chalkon for everyday local exchange when silver was simply too valuable for minor transactions. The city changed hands repeatedly between Persian and Athenian spheres of influence across this period, and its coinage reflects the instability: issues are irregular, die work inconsistent, and surviving specimens rare in any condition.
