Kos maintained enough political agility during the third century BC to avoid the worst of the Successor Wars, aligning opportunistically with the Ptolemies after Ipsos. This small bronze was almost certainly struck under that Ptolemaic patronage period, when the island's mint was active and its harbor commerce robust enough to demand fractional coinage at this weight.
