Troezen, the small Argolic city best known in antiquity as the birthplace of Theseus and the refuge of Athenian civilians during Xerxes' invasion of 480 BC, produced a modest bronze coinage in the late fourth century as the city navigated the turbulent aftermath of Alexander's campaigns and the shifting hegemonies of the Diadochi. The Traité III attribution pins this firmly to the post-Classical municipal series, when many Peloponnesian poleis were asserting local identity through bronze coinage even as their political autonomy eroded.
