| Reverse description | A large archaic San (Ϻ), the letter peculiar to the Sikyonian alphabet and used in place of Sigma, dominates the field, oriented vertically and rendered in bold, incuse-style strokes. The letter Alpha (Α) appears in the upper field and the letter Gamma (Γ) in the lower field, flanking the central San as subsidiary control letters. Together, the three letters form an abbreviated reference to the civic authority of Sikyon (ΣΑΝ standing for the city's archaic spelling). The design is austere and epigraphic in character, with no border or additional ornament. |
