背面描述 A large archaic San (Ϻ), the letter peculiar to the Sikyonian alphabet and used in place of Sigma, dominates the field, oriented vertically and rendered in bold, incuse-style strokes. The letter Alpha (Α) appears in the upper field and the letter Gamma (Γ) in the lower field, flanking the central San as subsidiary control letters. Together, the three letters form an abbreviated reference to the civic authority of Sikyon (ΣΑΝ standing for the city's archaic spelling). The design is austere and epigraphic in character, with no border or additional ornament.

附加信息

Sikyon occupied an unusual position among Peloponnesian poleis — prosperous enough to maintain an active bronze coinage but politically squeezed between Corinth and the Achaean cities throughout the fourth century. The city's bronze issues of this period are frequently attributed to the reforms following Euphron's democratic coup around 367 BC, after which Sikyon briefly aligned with Thebes before reverting to oligarchic control. Administrative instability across that span likely interrupted production, which may account for the relatively limited die pool known for this denomination.
