Beschrijving keerzijde Palm tree with slender trunk and spreading fronds occupying the central field, flanked by the civic monogram ΙΤ in the lower left field and a scallop shell in the lower right field. The palm tree serves as the primary symbol of the polis of Halieis, while the shell references the city's coastal identity on the Argolic Gulf. The layout is characteristic of small Argolic bronze issues of the early fourth century BC.

Aanvullende informatie

Halieis, the Argolid coastal settlement at the tip of the Hermionid peninsula, was evacuated and resettled multiple times during the fifth century BC — largely at Athenian instigation — before finally stabilizing as an independent community around the time this chalkon was struck. The city's bronze coinage is sparse, its types few, and surviving pieces genuinely scarce; the BCD collection, the most comprehensive assembly of Peloponnesian bronzes ever sold at auction, yielded only a handful of Halieis attributions.
