| 表面の説明 | Bare male head facing right, rendered in profile with visible hair locks depicted in relief along the crown. The portrait exhibits a characteristic archaic-to-early classical Thessalian style, with broad facial features and a somewhat schematic treatment of the hair. The surface shows natural patination consistent with bronze coinage of the period. No legend or inscription appears in the field. |

Metropolis was a minor Thessalian polis whose civic coinage output was modest enough that it barely registers in ancient literary sources. The city's bronze issues from this period circulated within a regional economy dominated by the Thessalian League, where small-denomination bronzes like this chalkon served hyper-local exchange needs rather than inter-polis commerce. The BCD specimen (lot 480.6) surfaced through the landmark Nomos auction of the BCD Thessaly II collection — arguably the most important dispersal of Thessalian bronzes in a generation.
