Bronze civic coinage of this type was almost certainly produced for local market exchange rather than inter-regional trade — the silver coinages of Larissa and Pharsalos handled that function. The chronological bracket straddles the period of Macedonian encroachment under Philip II, who effectively absorbed Thessaly into his sphere by 344 BC.
