Additional information

Pheneos was an Arkadian city whose civic coinage in bronze reflects the broader monetization push across the Peloponnese during the fourth century, a period when smaller bronze denominations began supplementing silver in local exchange for the first time. The city's output was never large, and the BCD collection — assembled by a single anonymous European collector over decades — remains the primary reference framework for attributing these minor Arkadian bronzes, many of which survive in only a handful of specimens.
