Chalkon

Olympia functioned less as a city than as a sanctuary administered by the Eleans, and coinage struck there was closely tied to the rhythms of the Panhellenic festival cycle. The Chalkon denomination itself was the smallest fractional unit in common use across the Peloponnese during this period, and examples from Olympia circulated primarily within the sanctuary precinct — used by pilgrims and vendors during the games rather than in any broader regional economy.
