Theban bronze issues of this period fall in the shadow of the city's political collapse after Cassander systematically dismantled what remained of Boeotian League authority following 316 BC. That Thebes was striking civic bronze at all during these years reflects a partial administrative recovery — the city had been razed by Alexander in 335 BC and rebuilt only through Cassander's own initiative around 316 BC, making this chalkon among the earliest coinage of the refounded city.
