Obverse description A stylized castle rising above a schematic representation of the sea, depicted with waves in the lower portion of the field. The design is enclosed within a partial or complete circular beaded or linear border, characteristic of the ceitil type. The legend SEBASTIANVS R P A runs around the periphery, though partially legible due to the irregular flan and hammered production. The overall design is rendered in a bold, simplified medieval style typical of Portuguese copper coinage of the sixteenth century.
