Reverse description The Portuguese royal coat of arms, corresponding to a fourth-type shield or recognized variant as catalogued by Magro, displayed within a beaded inner circle. The shield presents the traditional arrangement of escutcheons charged with bezants, enclosed within a bordure of castles, reflecting the heraldic conventions of the Aviz dynasty. A circular legend in uncial Latin letters surrounds the inner circle, partially visible due to the irregular flan and striking. The workmanship is consistent with the hammered technique and aesthetic conventions of mid-fifteenth-century Portuguese royal coinage.
