Obverse description Central device depicting a stylized castle with oblong turrets surmounted by three sharp battlements, flanked by lateral towers, all rendered in a bold, primitive hammered style characteristic of mid-fifteenth-century Portuguese coinage. The castle motif occupies the majority of the field, set within a beaded inner circle. A circular legend in uncial Latin characters runs along the periphery, reading ALFONSVS V REX PORTUGALIE, identifying the issuing monarch. The surfaces show characteristic surface porosity and irregular flan edges consistent with hammered copper production. The overall design reflects the heraldic tradition of the Portuguese royal house under Afonso V.
