Obverse description Central device shows the Hawk of Quraish (Syrian coat of arms) with wings spread, bearing a shield charged with two five-pointed stars, and a scroll inscribed with the name of the Syrian Arab Republic in Arabic. The country name legend arcs across the top of the field, with the Hijri year (AH 1421) to the right and the Gregorian year (AD 2000) to the left. The legend 'Central Bank of Syria' appears in the lower field, with the fineness mark 'IF 999' in the exergue.
