Obverse description Central field occupied by the quartered shield of Savoy, displaying the ducal arms with the characteristic cross, supported by an ornate cartouche and surmounted by a ducal crown rendered in high relief. The circular Latin legend runs along the coin's periphery, interrupted by stops, reading CAR. EM. D. G. DVX. SABAVD., identifying the issuer as Charles Emmanuel, by the grace of God Duke of Savoy. The shield's cartouche features elaborate scrollwork typical of late sixteenth-century Italian hammered coinage.
