Obverse description Central device comprising the papal tiara surmounting two crossed keys in saltire, the traditional symbol of the Apostolic See, rendered in relief within an irregular hammered flan. The keys display ornate bow-rings at their lower terminals, with the tiara's triple crown clearly articulated above. A circular beaded border frames the design, with the papal legend disposed around the periphery in Latin characters. The overall style is characteristic of late 15th-century Italian hammered coinage, with slight weakness in strike consistent with the type.
