Reverse description A crowned eagle displayed facing left, its wings spread and body rendered in a bold, somewhat archaic style typical of Aquilan civic coinage of the period. The crown surmounts the eagle's head at the top of the field, serving as the civic emblem of L'Aquila. The surrounding legend in Latin is distributed around the beaded border, proclaiming the liberty of the city. The flan is irregular and the strike shows typical variation associated with hammered production of the late 15th century.
