Obverse description Central device depicting a large Gothic castle (castillo) with three towers, the central tower taller and surmounted by a cross, with arched doorways and crenellations rendered in high relief in the medieval Castilian heraldic tradition. The castle is flanked by Gothic decorative elements, and the mint mark 'S' (for Seville) appears prominently in the lower field beneath the castle. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the royal legend occupying the surrounding field up to a dotted outer border.
