| Obverse description | Central device depicting a crowned Gothic castle with three towers, each battlemented, set upon an arched base with a central doorway — the heraldic castle of Castile rendered in high relief in the Gothic manner. The castle is flanked by small ornamental devices within a quatrefoil or lobate inner frame. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, separated from the field by a beaded inner border. The legend is partially truncated, consistent with the irregular flan typical of hammered coinage of this period. |
