| Obverse description | Central field displays the Carrara family heraldic arms, featuring two carts (carri), enclosed within a decorative polylobed frame. The shield is rendered in a late medieval Gothic style typical of northern Italian hammered coinage. A circular legend in uncial Latin characters surrounds the polylobed border, separated by pellets and annulets as punctuation. The overall composition is characteristic of the da Carrara signorial coinage of Padua in the late fourteenth century. |

Francesco I da Carrara — "il Vecchio" — struck this issue during an increasingly desperate final stretch of his rule over Padova. By 1388, Gian Galeazzo Visconti's encirclement of the city was nearly complete, and the debasement of this very type from .750 to .360 fine silver almost certainly reflects the financial strain of funding a losing war. Francesco surrendered Padova to the Visconti in November 1388 and died in a Milanese prison the following year.
The CNI records only a handful of die combinations for this emission, suggesting a short and troubled production run.
