Obverse lettering A DE PICTA COM UALER ET DI
(Translation: Aymar of Poitiers count of Valence and Die.)
Reverse description The Virgin Mary, crowned and veiled, is depicted enthroned and facing forward in a hieratic frontal pose. She holds the infant Jesus in her left arm and a fleur-de-lis sceptre in her right hand. A small escutcheon bearing the arms of Poitiers is visible on the crown. The entire composition is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with a Latin Ave Maria devotional legend running around the circumference. The style reflects the Marian iconographic conventions common to Angevin-influenced feudal coinage of the period.
