The shield is rendered in low relief characteristic of hammered copper coinage of the period. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading ERARD . DE . MARKA . EPS . LEODI, identifying the issuer as Erard of la Marck, Bishop of Liège. The coin exhibits the irregular flan and uneven strike typical of early sixteenth-century hammered coinage from the Low Countries. |
