The Catuslugi were a minor Belgic tribe whose coinage attribution has been contested for decades — the DT classification pinned down their issues largely through find-spot concentrations in the Somme basin rather than any inscribed tribal identifier. Class IV bronzes within the VIIRICIVS series represent a typological refinement on earlier emissions, distinguished by subtle die characteristics that suggest a different workshop or a later production run within the same brief monetary episode.

Caesar's Gallic campaigns, concluded by 51 BC, effectively dismantled the political structures that authorized tribal coinage. Issues dating to the 50–40 BC window were almost certainly struck under significant duress or in the immediate aftermath of Roman reorganization of northern Gaul.
