Tasciovanos ruled the Catuvellauni from roughly the mid-first century BC, with his power base at Verulamium — one of the first British rulers to name a mint town on his coinage, a practice almost certainly borrowed from Gallo-Belgic contact rather than Roman influence at this stage. The "Seahorse" variety designation follows Van Arsdell's typological grouping and reflects the diversity of reverse types produced under a single ruler whose reign may have spanned three decades. ABC 2658 places this among the later bronzes of his output.
