Bronze Unit Ownby Beast

The Trinovantes occupied territory roughly corresponding to modern Essex and southern Suffolk, and were among the first British tribes documented by name — Caesar encountered them during his 54 BC expeditions and noted their cooperation against the Catuvellauni, their more aggressive western neighbors. Small cast or struck bronzes like this one functioned in local exchange below the threshold of the gold and silver coinage used for elite transactions and cross-tribal trade. The "Ownby Beast" designation is a collector and reference term for the distinctive zoomorphic type, not a tribal label.
