Eppillus is one of the few pre-conquest British rulers whose name appears on coinage in both Britain and Gaul, suggesting a political reach — or at minimum a minting ambition — unusual among the Cantii. He also styled himself REX on his coins, a Latin title that points to deliberate engagement with Roman political vocabulary at a moment when Roman influence over southeast Britain was intensifying following Caesar's expeditions.
The Harlow classification distinguishes this pegasus type from other Eppillus bronzes by die grouping work done in the late 20th century.
