Cunobelin — Shakespeare's Cymbeline — ruled from Camulodunum (modern Colchester) and is the single most documented of all pre-Roman British kings, known to Roman writers including Suetonius. His bronzes were struck in the final decades before the Claudian invasion of 43 AD, when the Catuvellauni had absorbed the Trinovantes and effectively dominated southeastern Britain. The ship type is among his rarer bronze varieties, and the ABC 2939 classification places it within a tightly defined series that numismatists continue to debate in terms of chronological sequencing relative to his other issues.
