Selge was one of the few Pisidian cities to maintain genuine political independence through the Hellenistic period, repelling even Alexander's general Ptolemy in 333 BC through a combination of mountain terrain and determined resistance. Its bronze coinage circulated locally in a region where Seleucid, Pergamene, and later Roman authority each attempted, with varying success, to draw the city into broader imperial frameworks.
The SNG France 2003 reference places this type within a well-documented series, though die studies suggest production was intermittent rather than continuous across the two-century span.
