| Reverse description | A prominent ear of grain orientated horizontally occupies the central field, serving as the principal type and as a civic emblem of Amphipolis. The ethnic legend ΑΜΦΙΠΟ / ΛΙΤΩΝ is disposed in two lines divided by the grain ear, with the upper portion above and the lower portion below the stalk. The reverse field shows no further devices or symbols. The die work is typical of the late Macedonian civic bronze series produced after the Roman reorganisation of 148 BC. |
