| 裏面の説明 | A Capricorn depicted in profile facing right, rendered in the stylised, schematic manner typical of late Iron Age Celtic coinage. The creature, a hybrid of goat and fish, occupies the central field of the irregularly shaped flan. Details of the body and tail are summarily executed, reflecting the workshop traditions of the Cantii. No inscription or border is present. |

Eppillus is one of the few rulers of pre-Roman Britain whose name appears on coinage in both Britain and Gaul, suggesting a cross-Channel political reach unusual for a tribal king of this period. He likely ruled the Atrebates before moving into Cantii territory, and this small bronze — a fractional denomination by any reckoning — would have circulated in the years immediately preceding or overlapping with the Claudian invasion buildup. The eight-ring type is catalogued under Van Arsdell's die study as a distinct emission, not a variant of earlier Cantii struck bronze.
