Beschrijving voorzijde Bridled horse's head in left profile, rendered in bold relief characteristic of the bracteate tradition, centrally positioned within a raised inner ring. The bridle and reins are depicted with notable detail, lending a naturalistic quality to the equine effigy. The design is enclosed by a broad, slightly raised outer border, with a beaded inner rim framing the central motif. The flan is irregular and thin, consistent with the uniface hammered bracteate technique of the 13th-century Austrian minting tradition. No legend or inscription appears on the coin.

Aanvullende informatie

Ottokar II of Bohemia controlled Carinthia from 1269 until his defeat and death at the Battle on the Marchfeld in 1278, and these thin-flan bracteates were struck at Landstraß — modern-day Kostanjevica na Krki in Slovenia — during the middle years of that occupation. The Landstraß mint was a relatively minor operation, which accounts for the modest surviving population of this type.
